Can I use IIS on Professional 2000 windows ? 1

I have Professional 2000 windows installed at my home and I want to use IIS on it so that I can run my ASP pages i.e. are created in Dreamweaver Ultradev. Is it possible to run on Professional 2000 and IIS on it. If yes , then How ?

Yes, you can run IIS on W2k Pro. If IIS has not been installed, you may install it by going Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components, select Internet Information Service (IIS). You may be asked for the W2k pro CD to start the installation.

After IIS is installed, you can start web configuration by going to Start -> Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Internet Service Manager. I hope it helped you to start. It's not about whether you can do it or not, it's about HOW

But remember you will have only PWS on professionla will enable you to host only one site on one IP if you wnat to host multiple sites with diffrent IP's you need to upgrade to win2K server Mughal saab..

I could not understand that why I need PWS on Professional , I think IIS will work for me.
Do you mean IIS by the word PWS (Personal Web Server.) I think PWS works for W98 or others.

Actaully you can't run IIS on win2k professional IIS run only on Server O/S.
M$ changed name of IIS fro Internet Information Server to Internet Information Services in Win2K and added same as windows component in Win2K professionla you have IIS(PWS old name) and win win2K Server you have full IIS.

Hi Guru jee !

But, I have IIS in Professional too and on Server as well. Now, I have noticed that the Buttons of Start and stop are disabled in Professional and they are working on Server's IIS.

Can you tell me the difference in IIS on Professional and on Server. What are the functions of IIS on Professional.

Now , I am confused in these two IIS and I am thinking that IIS on Professional is only client utility like we have in SQL Server on clients.
