Hi

on the 8.0 SP1 release notes it says

From MCD 4.1 ~ MiVB 7.2 SP1 PR1 to MiVB 8.0 SP1
Select Upgrade or Full Install via Software Tool to upgrade
For controllers with Flexible Dimension, Full Install is required.

I was told that i need to go to 4.2 first and then from 4.2 to 8.0 SP1.

Thanks

I'll let others confirm but I'm sure you can upgrade directly from MCD4.1 to 8.0 SP1.

Yes you can go straight to 8.0 SP1.

Make sure you have checked application compatibility if you have any, and that you don't have any 5550 consoles.

hi guys

cheers for the replies.

this is what it says in RN

From pre-MCD 4.0 upgrade
Please refer to MCD 4.0 SP4 Release Notes.

From MCD 4.0 to MiVB 8.0 SP1
MCD 4.0 (Rel 10.0) systems in network/cluster domain MUST be migrated from Classic Mode to SDS Extended Mode first.
It is recommended that a minimum of 10.0.4.26 (available on MOL) be used for migration purpose as 10.0.4.26 includes a better GDMrepair tools and SDS enhancements.
Once ALL MCD/3300 ICPs are migrated to SDS Extended mode, one can select Upgrade or Full Install via Software Tool to upgrade.

I know i need to run the Migration precheck command on 4.0 and check the directory names.

So am i right thinking that i should be able to upgrade the systems from 4.0 to the latest ?

Also how would i know if my controller is running on SDS Extended mode please ?

Thanks

You said your system is 4.1 therefore you must already be in SDS mode.

I have another upgrade coming up which is on Rel 9

Ok, I'm sure there will already be some threads on this but:

Upgrade your RAM to 512MB
Backup System
Upgrade to MCD4.0 latest SP (SP4 at the moment)
Backup System
Migrate DB (the latest MCD4.0 SP has a form for this)
Backup System
Upgrade to MCD8.0
Backup System

Assuming this is a stand alone system.

yep i think that sounds about correct 2 hop for 3300 release 9 to MiVB8

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....

Thanks for the reply sarond

This is excellent info.

only part i`m not clear about is Migrate DB (the latest MCD4.0 SP has a form for this)

Is this the Under SDS Form sharing change to Common data distribution mode ?

Thanks

Migrate the database

Maintenance Command - Migration Pre-check

This command will generate a report of items that require attention prior to migrating the database. Most likely the report will contain a list of DN's in the system that are not named. I strongly recommend that you name each device listed and re-run the Pre-check until it is clean. Not naming the devices will cause them to be designated as local only devices which can cause issues down the line.

Once the migration Pre-check is clean, convert the system to Common Data Distribution Mode.

If you load MCD 4.0 SP4 as the interim load, there is a Migration Checklist and the link to covert the DB is in that form.

Make sure you take backups at each step (See Sarond's post above)

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

Also you do not state the controller type be aware some older controllers cannot go beyond v9.0

Just a side note, 5550 Console is no longer supported in release 8.0
If you are upgrading to 8, please keep in mind.
