Can I set a time-out for backups that fail to complete?

Hi guys, this is my first post here so im hoping this will be an easy one for you. I'm using Veritas 8.6 which is setup to do full daily backups and a weekly full backup.

The problem is that sometimes staff members forget to put the particular days tape in before the backup and this causes the job to run overnight (without a tape of course) and when the following days backup is scheduled (another tape put in the next day) the system uses that tape to complete the previous days backup. Things start to get messy if you see what I mean.

What I would like to know is it possible to create a backup job to cancel itself after x minutes/hours. In other words, if a tape is not in the machine when the backup starts either as a result of someone forgetting to do so or maybe a long bank holiday weekend, can the backup be configured to cancel itself after a set period of time? I would be grateful to know how to configure this as its driving me nuts!! Regards

Sorry, forgot to add that each backup job is set to eject the tape when it completes. Hence the reason why I would like to somehow cancel the job if a new tape is not put in with x amount of minutes/hours.

I'm wanting to know this also... tried your link but can't find the BEutility.exe software on my machine - is this an add-on??

The BEutility.exe file should be on the root of the Veritas installation path, something like:

C:\Program Files\Veritas\

If you still can't find it, try doing a search for BEutility.exe starting at the root of the drive on which it was installed.

In any case, it's not an add-on file or a separate download. It was installed with the rest of the backup suite, but it's not well documented or referenced (unless you really know where to look).
