Hello,

I have a disk with XP and I want it to run on another computer. What should I do to perform this? Or it works?

Thanks for your time

Diego

Do you mean you want to put a hard drive with a XP install in another PC or the XP CDROM?

You can probably get away with putting the hard disk in another PC and it will detect the changed hardware and install appropriate drivers - use safe mode if required.

The CDROM can also be used in another PC but to stay legal another key would have to be purchased.

Thanks for your reply

Yes, I just want to remove my HD from my computer and take it and install it on another one.

it happens that the other computer if 5000 Km far from here! and I wanted to be sure to make it work when I arrive.

I have successfully put hard drives into other pc's - XP should be ok at detecting new hardware and installing correct drivers....hope it works ok for you - you could use safe mode to disable or remove any unusual hardware that might cause a problem.

Thanks a lot. I am going to take the risk. Anyway, I am taking with me all the CDs to install/uninstall all the software.

I just did this yesterday.
I removed the HardDrive which was installed with XP and had been running on my computer for about 2 years.
80 GB H.D
PC was AMD Athalon 1.2 GHZ 256MB RAM
After some motherboard problems, I just removed the HardDrive and plugged it into another computer in my house.
The computer is a Celeron 800 Mhz with 256MB RAM
Windows XP booted up, detected/installed all the hardware in it's new home, and is currently working just fine.

Read up on Dynamic Disks... I believe if your disk is "Dymanic" you can swap the drive without any problems...

Thank you very much for posting.
I took the disk and it happened what Encapsulated said: it booted up and recognized the other hardware. After a normal period of time, it worked fine.

Thanks for the "Dynamic Disks" I will read it. Sure it will be fine because now I am having to move disks from computers everyday.
