I have a network but no server.
All devices are independent.

Can I plug the HP 2100 into the network and print to it?
I can't ping it since it has a 128.x.x.x IP address.

Is all I have to do is change the IP?
How can I do that?

Thanks.

You might wanna try the INPW (Install Network Printer Wizard) from HP :

Just run the installer and if the installer does not find the printer itself, make a manual install by entering the Mac address of the JetDirect card.

You might need to do a cold reset to change the IP of the card to autoIP. Press and hold the cancel button when you turn the printer on and continue to hold untill all three LED's are lid.

I did a cold reset on the printer.
Now the IP address is 0.0.0.0.
Another FAQ said the DHCP would be activated.
When I downloaded the INPW you suggested, I ran it and it couldn't find the printer (hp 2100tn).
I guess I need to somehow set an ip that I can see.

well do you have a DHCP server setup (like on your router if on a home network). Also look again you might have jumped the gun and did a print off before it got its address.

Turn on IPX in networking, then if you run discover in Jetadmin it will see the printer by the mac address and let you enter settings.
