Can I make Form Defaults Over-Ride Table Defaults?

I have a backend table I can not update (at present, due the complexity involved). Is there a way I can make Form defaults over-ride the table defaults?

I may have answered my own question! I thought I had tried it before, but entering defaults at form level DOES over-ride the table defaults. So I am happy! Any additional comments woould be helpful.
