Hi...

I was wondering if there is any way I could get the geographical location from the IP address or from any other data that is normally sent to the web browser???

I am trying to create a Flash application which basically maintains users who are on the web at the moment like a messenger if you will, and I'd like to know if it is possible to know that information in any ways so that I can actually map the user on the map...

Thank you...

Jason

I'm not aware of anything like this. The best I could suggest is to use one of the many graphic trace route type programs out there and map their nearest router. The problem you will have is that ISP will have a given range of ip they give out, but their customer range can be very large and make it difficult to really pinpoint it at all.

HI, Try Using a Tool Visula Route, Or Go for search in Google For NetGeo Tools.

But Here also.. what Our Friend was telling is correct. May be u will get the nearest... GateWay or the Router. of that IP Pool. Pinpointing the Location is I am not sure....

also you can go to arin whois a find the isp location but as far as some kind of search or such i do not know of one.

There is an application called NeoTrace available that does something like this. I am not entirely sure how accurate it is, but what it essentially does is a graphical trace route, and maps the nodes as it passes through them, according to information supplied by the provider.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys for the info...

What I am trying to do is basically the IP address of the guest in my site gets sent to the PHP script and the PHP script does the query on the specific IP address to the ARIN WHOIS via the ... But the thing is that, as you guys have mentioned it already, about 60% are right and the rest gets to the whole different part... If it is within the same region, that I understand... But sometimes people in UK gets said that they live in NL... That is way too off, isn't it???

Oh, well... I was going to send this data back to Flash and display the location of the guest on the map, but I am not sure if I can do that if the data become that off... :(

Thank you for the replies... Much appreciated...

Jason

Hi

You might want to check out this commercial product:

It does a demo of the IP of your computer. Pretty cool. If you know of any good free ones, let me know too! :)
