Can I/how to tell if I have a 1 or 2 port PRI card installed without opening the system up? 2

The number of PRI lines in the configuration would tell you.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.
 
If by "without opening the system up" you mean not logging into the system (instead of physically opening the system), look on the front of the card. There should be two stickers with part numbers. The one on the left is your base card (extension port 1-8), and the one on the right is your daughter card (trunk ports 9-12). Google this part number, or it might state it on the card. Like TTT said PRIS-U is single, PRID-U is dual.

Also it is a possibility that the card may have been changed after the label was fitted
the only 100% safe way is to check the CFG

Good engineers do, but not all are as good as they could be.
HI have been bitten too often to take anything at face value, after all if your check confirms the lable is correct no harm done, if it discovers it is wrong then disaster avoided.
