Can I download web-based email on my Palm IIIxe WITHOUT a modem?

I have a Palm IIIxe but do not own a modem. Is there a piece of software (preferably freeware) available which will allow me to connect to a web-based email provider (like hotmail or Yahoo!) and download my email to my Palm? It struck me that this function should be available, since this is very similar to what AvantGo does. I synchronize my Palm every morning and each time I do, AvantGo uses my internet connection to put news content on my handheld. Surely there must be some software which performs a similar function for email. All the ones I've seen so far require a modem for connection.

Additionally, if there is more than one software solution for this, can anyone make a recommendation as to which would be the best one to use?

Thanks much.

You could check you e-mail using outlook or eudora and sync your palm e-mail to that. -God Bless

Thanks for your speedy reply! I neglected to mention that I currently do not have Outlook configured on my desktop to read my email and was kind of hoping for a solution which bypassed this. Although I do recognize that it is successfully used by many people, it always seems to be Outlook which is front and centre whenever there are email related security problems or viruses in the news. So, to avoid any problems, I simply choose not to employ Outlook as a means of reading my email. Maybe they have everything fixed and patched up, and it works fine...maybe I'm just being overly cautious by not using it???

Thanks again!

Any other solutions?

I downloaded the latest version of Eudora last night and fought with it for the better part of the evening. I could not get the desktop to connect to my hotmail account. Obviously I am not specifying the server name or POP3/IMAP options correctly. Eudora has a pretty nifty looking Internet Suite available for the Palm, so I have no doubt that if I ever can figure out how to retrieve and send my hotmail email via Eudora that I'll be able to sync up with it no problem. I still would prefer a means of downloading my mail directly from the web to my Palm without relying on a desktop email client, but I guess I may just be out of luck. Thanks for your help.

Netscape has palm plugins, i just remembered. Tried that? -God Bless
