In my organisation we have 3 different companies which we trade from. The 3 companies all use the same exchange server. Some users have an email address for each company and can recieve email to any of the 3 email addresses.

Is there a quick way to choose which email address they use to send an email from without having to change the default reply address on the exchange server? Or am I asking too much?

as long as these users have full access permissions to these mailboxes, and they have all 3 accounts opened in one Outlook session, it should be as simple as giving them the "FROM" button in Outlook, and letting them choose which account to reply with. Does that not work?

Each user only has one exchange account but has 3 different external email addresses associated with their mailbox that people can send email to i.e user@company1.co.uk user@company2.co.uk & user@company3.co.uk.

In Exchange you have to choose one of these 3 email addresses as the default reply address.

I want them to be able to choose which email address (which company) they send their email from.

Thanks

then no, to give the user control over this, you'd have to create an actual mail account for each address.

Actually I think the answer is yes.. but depending on what version of Outlook your running. I have 3 emails set up on my Outlook 97. I can recieve from any of these emails. But on the client, if you go to tools, services, delivery tab. You can set what order of delivery. My main email addy is set at the top and it always uses this email to send from.

Hey JK, the delivery tab is for inbound mail, not outbound. But maybe I'm misunderstanding your point..?

If they add the "From" field to there emails they can manually type in the email address of the company they want to send from. As long as they have send on behalf permissions.

Yes it would seem that it is only for delivery of inbound mail. But I did just test this and it does work. The email that is set in the first order is the email that it's going to get sent from. I'm not trying to act like I know it all (because I don't) but this is something I have tried. Just try it and tell me your results. I'm curious as to how it works on other versions of Outlook.

Thanks guys for all your suggestions.

I have tried using the 'From' field and typing in one of my other email addresses (me@company3.co.uk), but Exchange will still send it from my default email address (me@company1.co.uk).

JKLizard3, do you have a seperate mailbox for each external email address?
I have one mailbox which has 3 external email addresses associated with it, therefore when I go to Tools, Services, Delivery the only options I only have the one mailbox.

I just don't think it's possible.

what version of Outlook are you using? I have Outlook 97. When I open up Services and check the Delivery tab. It shows my Exchange and then the 3 differnt Internet addys. With Outlook 97 there was a patch that you had to add for internet email. Each time I added an internet email I just clicked on add service and added another internet email addy. Hope this helps out.

Exchange Server 5.5 actually controls this; your "default" reply address is what people see when they view the actual email address. To view this check the email address tab for the mailbox in question. The only way I know of accomplishing this is either creating multiple mailboxes with the various email addresses or using POP/SMTP and creating multiple identities in Outlook Express, in outlook Express you can set what email address the recipient will see. This can be done in Outlook as well, but having various identities help.
