Our ISP just went south and they sent me all the DTS scripts from our web server. My server's name is different then theirs. How can I get the scripts to work? They reference the name of their server, not mine. Can the server name be set up in dts as a variable?

And I am transferring to a new server next week. Then what? Change them all again?

The scripts transfer files from our server to theirs.

I did use the Client Network Utility to set up an alias name, but can you use this with dts.

I'm not new to Sql Server, but I have never came across this before.

Did you try to set up an alias server in client network utility and register the new alias name in Enerprise Manager, then run the dts under the newly registered server.

there are ways u can have server names in variables and form the whole SQL as a string an execute. but u will have so many issues in it and maintaining them..

It is always good to use the hardcoded server name..

I'm just going to wait to see what my new server name will be, thenhard code the name.

What about the connection items in the dts. Do I have to make it a user, or use windows auth.? If I use windows auth., who's will it use when dts runs? I would think the user that I log in as when I run them, or if running in batch, then the user that SQL Server Agent is loged in as.....

Right?

i would always prefer windows authentication.

if windows authentication - it uses the authentication of the user who runs it..
