hey guys... I want to be able to plug a phone in (9611g) after I have cleared it and it grab the call server address and HTTP address by default. I don't want to manually enter them. I'm just not sure how to edit the file to do that.

any help would be great!

You will need the DHCP server to do that. Option 242 needs to be added to the DHCP server to allow the information to pass to the phone. This way the phone knows where to go to receive the 46xxsettings.txt file.

A really smart guy who unfortunately passed away had a whole website dedicated to special applications such as this. His name was Kyle Holladay. Here is a link to the article he wrote.

I thought It was possible to edit one of the files on the SD card? Is that correct?

headcase.... how can the phone get the file that tells it where to find the file???

1) IP Office is the DHCP server for the isolated network that the phones are connected to - everything is automatic

2) The phones are on the same network as the computers and the DHCP server has Option 242 with the Call Server and File Server addresses

3) The phones are in their own VLAN, the DHCP server on the default VLAN has Option 242 to redirect the phones to the proper VLAN and give them the Call and File server addresses. Once the phone reboots on the correct VLAN, DHCP can be provided by the IPO or a separate DHCP server isolated to the Voice VLAN.

4) LLDP can be enabled on the Ethernet switch, which will give the phone its VLAN. When it reboots on the Voice VLAN,
if the IPO is the DHCP server the phone will know the Call and File Server address, or if there is a separate DHCP server isolated to the Voice VLAN, the Option 242 string will give out the Call and File server address.

5) Avaya and Extreme switches can include "Vendor Specific" LLDP Call Server and File Server information along with VLAN information.

As everyone said above, it's all done in the DHCP options.

These are the ones I use:

XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX = IP Office/File Server Address

Option 176: MCIPADD=XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX,MCPORT=1719,HTTPSRVR=XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX,VLANTEST=0

Option 242: MCIPADD=XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX,MCPORT=1719,HTTPSRVR=XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX,L2Q=1,L2QVLAN=10,VLANTEST=0 [Note- this places the IP Phones on VLAN 10]

Option 120: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX

Thanks guys… I’ve never done this before! I’m super jealous of those that have done this! I’ll give it a go and see what happens. I’m going to try and setup option 242 in the DHCP server.

Thanks again, and thanks for taking time out of your day to help people like me 👍
