I am using version 11. Whenever I select a field lable in the page header that is the one from the database, I cannot access "can grow" in the format dialog box. If I delete the label and put in my own, it is available. It is also available for any string fields. I don't remember that being the case in other versions.

What is a field label from a database? Can you think of another way of phrasing it? As I've never heard of such a thing.

Do you mean the auto created label that is generated by Crystal? I doubt that they ever had can grow available as they are generated on the fly and intended to be used as text holders, they don't hold data. You can easily manually expand them in any direction, so I'm not sure what the concern is.

Hi Judy.

As of version 10 (I think) the column headings automatically inserted for detail fields by Crystal are not quite the same as regular text objects. Their size is directly tied to the size of the detail field itself, thus the "can grow" option is unavailable for these fields.

Since "can grow" is always available on regular text fields, deleting the default column heading and inserting your own text object heading sorts this out (as you mentioned).
