Can GroupWise and Outlook 2003 coexist? 1

I've tried everything I know, and all advice I could find on this and other forums, but am unable to get these two to play nicely.

Has anyone been able to make them work together, or it this a futile effort?

We went through the same thing that you are going through now when we were under GW v5.x. We finally had to force the issue and only support that which was our district standard, GroupWise.

The only hope for GroupWise and Outlook to co-exist was the introduction of the GroupWise plugin (GW55OL2.EXE) for Outlook. And then the plugin was only good for Outlook 98 or Outlook 2000 while under GW 5.5.x. I know of no current plugin for GW v6.x and any version of Outlook. Whether you select GroupWise or Outlook it is best for what sanity you have left to just select one or the other. I personally (long ago) come to the realization that these two kids just do not play well together. And never will.

FWIW, at Brainshare they announced that the next GroupWise will fully support Outlook.. I saw some demos and it looked alright. The parts are in beta right now.

I know that doesn't help you now...

Last evening I heard from another source that the next version of GroupWise would support Outlook.

But, I still appreciate the feedback, and concurrence!!!

Better late then never?

Groupwise will always use the Novell Default Settings profile and Outlook with TRY to use the Novell settings by default. By creating a new profile (Assuming Outlook is being installed after GW) and forcing Outlook to ask which profile to be used, it works.

In order for Outlook to play nicely with Groupwise, you simply have to set up a profile for Outlook in the "Mail" options of the Control Panel and check the box that says something the effect of "Prompt for profile to use".

It's a minor inconvenience, but when Outlook starts you have to choose the profile you've created for it (Or the existing profile it's been using if it was installed before GW).

After you've created the profile and start Outlook, it will ask you if you'd like it to fix a "problem" it's found with the messaging. Be sure to tell it "No" or you'll be reinstalling your GW client.

We currently run GW 6.5.4 and some of our remote users use Outlook 2003. We enable POP/SMTP for them to be able to access GW because some of them hated the webmail, even though it is much better now than it was 5.5.

We have not tried the Outlook plugin for GW recently but then again we have not needed it.

Just to add to the Sinkalip's posting...

You can probably avoid reinstalling GW client by going to Control Panel -> Mail -> Profiles and removing Novell Default Settings profile. When you restart GW it should recreate the profile, effectively fixing itself. I tried it on WinXP Home with Outlook 2003 and GW 6.5.1 - it worked.
