One of our salesmen has been using a RIM 957 as a PDA (no email). He is now using a BlackBerry 7290, including email. (We don't have the BlackBerry Enterprise Server installed... mail from our Exchange Server is just forwarded to the Blackberry.)

Is it possible to transfer the data on the 957 (contacts, etc.) to the 7290? I've considered trying the Backup and Restore feature of the Desktop Manager for this, but I understand the 957 is C++ based while the 7290 is Java based. Does this difference present a problem with this kind of data transfer?

I have very little experience with these devices, and the user has no technical background at all. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes it will work just as simply as doing a back up from the 957 and a restore to the 7290.... on caveat... the incoming items will overwrite the existing data on the 7290.... meaning any messages he has accumulated since the install will be overwritten with the messages his old device holds up to the time it was disconnected.

Thanks for the reply cartwft! Sorry I took so long to respond, I had to take an unplanned trip. He is on the road now, so I will try it as soon as he gets back.
