Hello,

Does anyone know of a way to backup over the network (from a Windows 2000 server running Backup Exec 8.0) a Windows 2000 workstation computer? I realize the speed would be slow but it isn't too much information. I thought the remote agent would allow this to work but it didn't.

Thanks,
Tom

I only have experience with Backup Exec 8.5 and newer, but you should be able to use 8.0 to back up either a remote workstation or server. It shouldn't care. Verify that the remote agent is installed by checking the file C:\WINNT\BCKUPINST.LOG. Also check to make sure the remote agent service is running.

You may also have to run setup on your media server and punch in a license key for the remote agent.

I've had each of these three things happen to me at one time or another.

Dave,

Thanks for the information. As far as I know, I didn't purchase any remote agent licenses. I am assuming that it isn't working because I don't have the license. I am going to have to purchase a license and see if I have any luck.

Do you know if the standard version of Backup Exec includes any remote agent licenses?

Thanks,
Tom

I thought that it included one remote agent license, but I could very easily be wrong about that. It would be worth calling Veritas' sales department to ask before plunking down the cash.

Remote agent license are not required for backing up workstations. Its included free with core product. Just need to install the remote agent software and thats it.
