Can anyone provide me with the Microsoft equivalent to this in Exchange 5.5? It is called a return receipt I belive.

"This is a Return Receipt for the mail that you sent to person@place.com

Note: this Return Receipt only acknowledges that the message was displayed on the recipient's machine. There is no guarantee that the content has been read or understood."

This is something you would configure on your client eg MS Outlook...
for setting up a one-off message receipt when sending a mail go to View\Options and you'll see Tracking...
for always requiring a receipt go to Tools\Options\Preferences\Email\Tracking .
