A colleague of mine has installed NT4 on FAT and is getting
the following message.

We have installed Windows NT 4.0 as I mentioned and when we try to run command.com from the run menu the following dialog box appears with the below message.

16 Bit MS-Dos Subsystem
C:\WINNT\System32\command.com

C:\WINNT\System32\config.nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS-Dos and Microsoft Windows applications.

Terminate or Ignore

If you choose either terminate or ignore it closes the window.

NT 4.0 cannot run with DOS. NT does have a DOS emulation that runs within NT. Under Programs choose Command Prompt. Another note...your friend should install NT using NTFS to make full use of NT's capabilities.

If you want to run Nt:s command prompt the command is cmd.com and not command.com as in win9x.

Nostradamus

Just ran `command.com` on my NT4 workstation on NTFS
this ran just fine ...
Checked my config.nt - the following were the contents
dos=high, umb
device=%SystemRoot%\system32\himem.sys
device=%SystemRoot%\system32\ansi.sys
files=20
shell=%SystemRoot%\system32\command.com /e:1024
This is a stock standard company build using NTFS instead
of FAT!

Hope this helps??

What is Documentation??
