Hi all,

I have two servers running on VMWare Workstation 5.

From Server 1 (DC) I can't ping Server 2. From Server 1 I can browse shares on Server 2. From Server 2 I can browse and ping Server 1.

In DNS MMC on Server 1 I see Server 2 listed (Host (A)). I deleted it, rebooted Server 2 and it re-registered correctly in Server 1's DNS.

Still have the problem described above.

Actually Other than the ping issue, everthings running as I beed it. The "ping" issue is bothersome though.

Any clues as to what might be going on would be helpful.

Iggy

Are you pinging the full DNS name or just the first part of it?

ie server2.msft.com or server2?

Also do you have the firewall setup on Server2? is it blocking ICMP?

What happens if you try doing a pathping to it?

SimonD.

The real world is not about exam scores, it's about ability.

Hi all, Hi SimonD,

I have ISA Server 2004 Running on NWY-RT-ISA-01 (10.0.0.5 Subnet mask 255.255.0.0).

I have the Domain Controller running on NWY-RC-DC-01 (10.0.0.2 Subnet mask 255.255.0.0).

I enabled ICMP prototcol on ISA Server.

ON the DC I can:
1. Ping the DC (full name, part of it, and IP address)
2. Use Windows Explorer to access File Shares on ISA Server
3. I still can't ping or pathping the ISA server.

ON the ISA Server I can:
1. Ping the ISA server (full name, part of it, and IP address)
2. Ping the DC (full name, part of it, and IP address)
3. Use Windows Explorer to access File Shares on DC Server

There is no Windows Server firewalling enabled on the network connections (i.e, right click network connection, properties, advanced, firewall checkbox+settings.

Any other clues I should look for?

Iggy

Would like to see an answer for this as I am having a very similar issue. IggyTheGreat - did you ever get it solved? (and will tek-tips delete this ttt post?)

what is the ping respond?
The easiest way is to allow all traffic on ISA first, if you can ping, modify your ISA rule
