Hello,

I have a user who would like to simultaneously log in to and apply rules to two mailboxes, his own and a global mailbox. Is this possible? (What he wants is an address (e.g., TrainingInfo@infotech.com) in addition to his personal address where he can receive training-related inquiries. He also needs to be able to manipulate the rules/inbox assistant for that address.)

If not, what would be the easiest way for a user to administer rules on a global mailbox without logging in under that mailbox's username?

Similarly, is there a way for an NT user to log in to the network under one username and an Exchange account under another?

Thanks all!

Ali

Hi Ali,

Its possible for a user with one NT account to have multiple mailboxes.
The global mailbox - remember not to link with any .pst file

Hope this helps.

Thanks very much for your reply, Vijay.

More specifically, is it possible somehow for a user to be able to apply rules to the inbox of two different mailboxes under the same log-in?

You can set up multiple email addresses on the same mailbox. In Exch Admin go to email addresses tab. Add new ones to your hearts content.

Then create rules on your inbox to move the emails to whichever folders you want.

This is possible. Associate an NT account with the Global mailbox in the Exchange Administrator. In this case, the user that wants to use this mailbox would be easiest because then the user has admin permissions on the account. You can also associate the mailbox with it's own NT user account (something like Global). In this case you would have to login to a computer with that username, go into the properties of the Mailbox and add permissions for this other user that would include the ability to add folders, etc. There are a few levels of security here and you may need to play with them to get it right. This would be a better solution if in the future you think this user might not be using the account anymore. Then you don't have to remove that user account from the Global mailbox and add another. You just give the new user permissions for that Global account.

Next, go into the properties of the MS Outlook connectiod on the user's machine. Right click and go to properties. Then Choose Microsoft Exchange Server and go to properties. The second tab over should be Advanced. Choose the "Open these additional mailboxes" and add that mailbox by it's name. Then when the user opens up their mailbox, they will actually be opening up both. From there, you can apply rules to the different mailboxes by going through the rules wizard and pointing the rules at the folder under the second mailbox.

Hope this helps. I'm doing this myself and it seems to work pretty well.
