Can an Enterprise pager be used for wireless off stand alone outlook?

I have a user who has a balckberry pager that was once used at his corporate office off their exchange server, he no longer works with the firm and asked if I could set it up for wireless email off his desktop outlook w/o any servers involved, Is this possible?

You can setup desktop redirector on the users PC. But then they will need to keep that machine up and running 24/7 in order to get their mail.
Doesn't work so well for users with Laptops.
Also you still need an Exchange Server running.

Still need an Exchange server? what about using pop accounts? like road runner?

There is Blackberry Web Client that allows users to access POP accounts. Who is the carrier? I think there are also third parties that provide internet addresses etc.
