Hello…. I can send and receive local (ISP) email and receive external email but I can not SEND external.

We had a customer with a virus yesterday that clogged the queue with 31K emails before we got her shut off. I went in and touched all of the queues so that the emails would appear older then they were to get QMAIL to process them out of queue.

I have also rebooted the mail server.

Also, I can connect to other external email servers via telnet and port25. And I can connect to my mail server via port 25.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

TD

What do the logs say?
What does /etc/resolv.conf say?
Have you checked the queue?
How did you determine that you can't send externally?

Hello thedaver:
What do the logs say?
/var/log/current:
@4000000043d928772c9d322c starting delivery 25716: msg 277499 to remote uldv@infinet.com
@4000000043d928772c9d41cc status: local 0/10 remote 20/20

What does /etc/resolv.conf say?
/etc/resolv.conf is both of our DNS Servers

Have you checked teh queue?
In the queue we have 35K and growing emails

How did you determine that you can't send externally?
I have sent serveral test messages to both gmail and yahoo accounts and none have gone through. We also have customers calling and saying they sent mail hours ago and it hasn't been received.

qmailctl stat

/service/qmail-pop3d/log: up (pid 1013) 21431 seconds
messages in queue: 35528
messages in queue but not yet preprocessed: 0

Also:
when I do a ps -ef |grep qmail-send I get the following:

qmails 1015 1003 0 10:09 ? 00:00:42 qmail-send

don't know if that is good or bad.

Thanks

I don't see anything wrong with what you've supplied.

It's possible that your external DNS isn't getting the job done for your outgoing.

It's possible that the massive bounces in your queue are undeliverable, though your queue log snippet reveals nothing - though not much of a sample.

At this point I would recommend that you take more proactive steps to eliminate the bullshi% stuck in your queue.

CAREFULLY use qmail-remove

To remove as many offending items as you can.

Frankly I'm concerned that you didn't see more qmail-send processes open. Unless your queue is corrupted or damaged, at which point you should use qmail-repair

If you can produce some logs with errors, that would be useful.

We ended up with bad hardware and after the raid card failed we were forced to rebuild.

Thanks for your help!

The Daver,

Do you consult or know someone who does? We are needing a qmail expert to assist us remotly.

Thanks,

TD
