YO when i render -i am only getting the image in shades of grey once ive mapped a texture to my object? any idea how i fix this!? also when i set the camera using the manual controls i see the object in wireframe like i want - but when i click render the object appears MILES away ??????????????

Next to the big "render" button are four smaller buttons, two either side.

The first one to the left of the render button is "Quick Render", which will render quicker, but less quality."

The second one to the left of the render button is "Textures On/Off". If this button is selected (i.e. red) it will render your scene without textures. (used for quick renders when building a scene.)

It sounds like you have this button turned on.
If it is red, click it to turn it off and then render the image.

Hope this helps.
