Power went down hard. On power up the floppy drive and tape drive runs. The monitor light goes green, but nothing shows up on the monitor.

When trying to log in through the client, the client says it can't see the server.

Does anybody have a miracle?

Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

ouch, that old. You may have lost the hard drive. the problem is 1.07 was a mother to reimage. You will have to load Windows Server NT, congifure and then load and configure the application. Kinda like the first version of 2.02, before the image cd's were created.

i feel your pain and hope for the best.

Okay, first, anyone that has a 1.07 should have already imaged 3 backup DRIVES as spares and have them in a safe place. They should have 3 backup tapes with current backups on them. They should have cans of air to blow that system ever 6 months.
That being said, your (old) power supply might be at minimums to operate. Start there. Pick up a spare or just snag one to test with. Plug the main power into the motherboard and if it beeps, your okay there. Replace that power supply.

If you have more issues, come on back and we'll all talk.

Thanks.

No diagnostic beeps when it boots up. CDRom and Tape drive run. After about ten or fifteen seconds the light goes from amber to green on the monitor, but nothing shows up on the monitor. The keyboard doesn't seem to come alive -- no lights on it.

I sort of doubt it, but could any of this be caused by the PBX or MGate being confused or from not seeing the parallel dongle, or are those different issues?

On the upside, this is a raid system with four harddrives. But I don't think the harddrives ever spin.

It's starting to look like a power supply problem or a mother board to me. Would anybody still have either one of those as parts?

Thanks again. I appreciate any ideas.

Start with the power supply, but, motherboards are Intel and can be found online. 702's are online too. You just have to do some searching. You shouldn't have to pay more that a couple hundred for either. I'm going to assume that you don't have a contract on that thing, right!? If you find a 201i with a bunch of seats, that would work too.

I backed out the SCSI card and now it tries to boot up. I can see the screen and the bios. So it looks like a SCSI card problem.

I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

I'll have another SCSI card tomorrow. I'll let you know if that fixes it.

Thanks again.

SCSI card -- Nortel # NTRH7096 Warranty start date 11/2000
Nortel 702t server. End Of Life April 30, 2004

Killed on 12/7/2010 by people doing "preventive maintenance" on the UPS system. (That also killed a dozen or so routers and servers.)

Nobody can tell me that Nortel didn't build good stuff.

Good call. Be sure when this thing is working, to schedule some maintenance time to replace those SCSI drives one at a time. Device (Drive) Zero has everything on it and should be "imaged" to a new drive. Remove the old when done, and install the new replacement. Let it run on all the new drives. Replace your backup tapes if over 5 years old too. This thing will probably run another 20 years. When you're done, give your customer the bill with a note that you just saved them 50 grand! Merry Christmas!

IT LIVES!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I found a new Mylex, Acceleraid 352 card on eBay for $17 and was able to pick it up in person today. (Only about 9 miles away.)

Put it in, enabled the bios and it's up and flying.

Thanks DocVic, I'll take your advice on the hard drives.

Merry Christmas!
