Hello - I am trying to get the Fax from the desktop feature to work. I can get faxes & messages at the desktop just fine. But when we try to send them it fails immidiately. CPTrace tells me that it can't find the SMTP server. The matter boils down to this - externally I can't telnet to port 25. From the CP server itself - I can telnet to 25 just fine. There are no routers of firewalls in between this. I can get to the Callpilot web interface just fine as well.

For giggles I ran a port scan against the CP server. Port 25 TCP is not active, but Port 25 UDP is.

I have other issues that I need to work out, but I think that if I get this going my faxing and MyCallPilot server stuff will start working.

TIA,

Guy

doesn't smpt use two ports? been a while, but what protocols are you using.. pop and ?.. smtp is clear txt if i remember right, does a fax server use just smpt? been out of school to long.. just food for thought...another thought, no routers or firewalls... are you using layer 2 switching or broadcast?.. and do you have vlan segmentation

I have kept everything basic. SMTP generally uses just the TCP port 25. FTP uses 2 ports though. The only network device that I have in place is a little hub. All of the other ports (web server for call pilot) work fine from this same system.

Have you checked your configuration on Call Pilot for SMTP?

To set SMTP options
1 In CallPilot Manager, choose Messaging ? Message Delivery
Configuration.
2 In the SMTP/VPIM section, check Incoming SMTP/VPIM to enable
access to SMTP service from desktop messaging clients.
3 Click Security Modes for SMTP sessions, and then specify the required
security options.
4 Click Save.

There are a number of other settings, is your SMTP/VPIM prefix set correctly; is the server FQDN set correctly, what are your security settings, etc.
