I am looking to see if anyone has installed cm 6.0 on a generic pc. I am looking to install it to test it in a lab enviroment. I have done it in the past with version 4. Any help would be great.

Only way I could get 4.3 installed on a desktop was to use vmware workstation and it works fine, just out of curiosity what vers of 4 was it and how did you install it on a standard pc?

CCM 6 (and 5.x) are based around RedHat Linux (as opposed to Windows with CCM 4.x and earlier). The install DVD is an automated install that installs RedHat Linux and then CCM 6. The install detects the Hardware and won't install unless it is a supported platform. I have a supported platform (HP DL320 G2 with a 2.26Ghz P4) however I have two 80GB ATA disks installed instead of the two 40GB disks (which the 'official' platform has). I have tried several times now to install CCM 6 on this and although the install seems to go OK, it fails with a GRUB 21 error on reboot:

I haven't got any further with this yet as my Linux skills are pretty limited. I think I may be stuck though unless I replace the two 80GB drives with two 40GB ones. If anyone has any suggestions I am more than happy to try anything as at the moment I have a DL320 G2 sat there doing nothing...

I just installed CM 6.0 on a custum white box with vmware. I found through a couple of trials that you need to set it up a certian way.

Here are the settings:
1. Choose custom machine
2. Linux red hat enterprise 3
3. 1 processor
4. allocate 2096mb of ram
5. bridged network connection
6. SCSI adapter LSI logic
7. create new disk
8. IDE disk type
9. 72 gig's of hard drive space

And then you are ready to install. It took a little more than an hour to setup. Just make sure to enter the correct settings in the cm 6 configuration since it can be a pain to correct them later in linux. Hope this helps.
