I was reading the manual which came with some phones we recently purchased for our existing phone system, and it mentions a feature Calling Station Handsfree Mode Override. Basically, if you dial 7# before the extension, it is supposed to force the extension you are dialing into handsfree mode, even if it is in tone mode.

When I try using this feature, I dial 7#1_ (1 is the first digit of the extension, _ is any second digit of a 3 digit extension), and I get a fast busy signal.

I note that this manual (Titled "Vodavi Telephones Station User Guide Includes Attendant Features" and is Issue 1 dated April 2002) was released after we purchased our phone system in approximately 2000.

Is this feature one that needs to be activated either from the extension or in admin programming? Is it only available in later releases of the phone system?

Thanks for your help.

a little unsure of your description of problem...but on the starplus phones there is a 3 way switch on the front or sides of the phones that lets you change the mode of ringing or intercom signaling...hope this helps..

Thanks for your reply, circuitsbizy.

I am familiar with the h-t-p button on the front of the phone. What this command is supposed to do is override the settings of the h-t-p button. In otherwords, if the phone is set in tone mode (meaning that the phone rings like a normal phone), according to the manual, the caller is supposed to be able to dial 7# before the extension and this would force the receiving extension into handsfree mode for this call. Unfortunately this does not seem to work on my system.

A similar feature that does work fine is if you dial 6# before dialing the extension, it will do the opposite. It will allow you as the caller to take a phone that is set in handsfree mode, and force it into tone mode for this call.

The 6# feature works fine on my system. The 7# feature does not. This is what made me wonder if the 7# feature needs to be turned on somehow somewhere, or if it just doesn't exist in my version of the phone system.

Thanks again for replying!

what system are we talking about???
I have manuals for all their systems and its just a matter of me checking which one...

I couldn't find any meaningful information on the outside of the case, but dialing 605 for the software version yeilds:

Eng. Ver. 3.07-3FE1
STARPLUS BASIC

Thanks again for your help!

what models are the phones......

what does the front of the ksu say on it.........

Most of our phones are Starplus Triad 24 Button Executive Key Telephones, part # TR9015-71.

I'm not certain what KSU stands for, but if you mean the main phone system box, all it says on the front is Vodavi.

go to vodavi's website.......go to dealer sign it......
type in these 2 passwords...ascend & ascend...

link to triad and all the documentaion is there for your enjoyment...hope this helps as I as familar with the DHS's & the new STS...

Thanks for the tips on the manuals... I actually already had most of the relevant manuals. Unfortunately, they don't mention it being possible to activate or deactivate the feature. The only mention is how to use it, as I described above.

Oh well. Thanks so much for your efforts anyway.
