I have a Norstar MICS system and I'm setting up a voice mail box (Answer DN 333) to ring on multiple phones. No set is configured with this DN, I just created the guest mailbox 333. I configured another phone (extension 268) to have DN 333 "Appear&Ring" on it (which I've got working for other DN's), but when I dial into my company's main phone line, the phone that has DN 333 programmed to "Appear&Ring" starts ringing and the display (it's a M7310 model phone) shows "#######>333" (where ####### is my main phone line #). So it not only rings the extention that it's supposed to for the main line, it also now rings to this phone.

Any ideas? Is it because I don't have a phone that's configured with extension 333 anywhere in the company? It seems to only happen with phones that aren't "live".

check if your 333 have access and ring to line 1 and 2
(default value) so every time you receive calls on these lines the extension they have that answer dn will ring

"I configured another phone (extension 268) to have DN 333 "Appear&Ring" on it"
How did you do this? Do mean via Answer DN?
Do you mean you went into DN 333 and made it appear and ring for lines 1 etc?
"the phone that has DN 333 programmed to "Appear&Ring" starts ringing"..isn't that what you just told the system to do?
What is it that you want accomplish?

Sorry, it seems there is a definite need fo clarification...

1a. I went into the system configuration and added DN 333 to phone 268 via "Answer DN". This is not the primary DN of the phone, it just rings to a different button (not line 1 or 2).

1b. And yes, I want DN 333 to ring on my set (268), but only when dialed from another phone on the system. The problem I'm having is when I call our main external phone pool (xxx-xxx-xxxx) from my cell phone, my set (268) starts to ring with "xxxxxxx>333 jdoe" in the display as if I were the receptionist. I am not the receptionist and we do not have DIDs (unfortuantely... one of those things with starting a new job inhieriting old systems and don't know alot about norstar key systems). We have 24 POTs lines and vmail 3.x with old software (not T1 compatible).

1. What I am trying to accomplish: Create a non-existent Voicemail # on a DN (333) that has not been assigned to any phone set and have it ring as a secondary # on 4 different phone sets when dialed internally or through the system attendant. I am not looking to create a phone pool with a "live" phone number assigned to it, I just want an internal "hotline" ringing to people's existing phones without changing their already-assigned DN's. What's weird is that I'm able to accomplish this if I want my DN (268) to ring on the 4 employee's existing sets (DN's 310, 249, 301, and 256). I only have a problem when I create a guest voicemail box on DN's that have not been assigned to phone sets.

Please let me know if I did a little better job explaining this time. Thanks!!!

i would like to be the first one on this post to say....

get yourself a qualified vendor and have them train ya on the basic fuctionality of the norstar product line....

you said" I am not the receptionist and we do not have DIDs (unfortuantely... one of those things with starting a new job inhieriting old systems and don't know alot about norstar key systems)."
