Hello, I have a Partner ACS 8.0 and Partner Messaging 7.0 with a 6 port license card. (Also a 308EC and 012)
I have setup a calling group for 2 extensions. I want to have callers call using Ext 71, It will ring both Extensions (14 & 16) if not answered go to voice mail.

I have a Phantom mailbox setup on Ext 71 sending it's messages to Ext 16's mail box. (Ext 14 does not have a mail box.)

When calling 71 the voice mail never picks up.
I did this a couple of years ago on an ACS 7 with the same voice mail and it works. I compaired the prgraming of the ACS and the voice mail systems and I just don't see what I'm missing.

Please help.
Thanks.

Check the Transfer Return Extension setting #306 for each of the VM ports. Make sure they are set to themselves, instead of 10 as the manual tells you. The transfer from the AA to the group will then return to the VM port that did the transfer, and mailbox will answer.

I checked that already and each of the 6 VM ports all return to themselves.
This is not always handled by the AA. Most of the time the receptionist answers and transfers the caller to Ext 71.

VM coverage for the group is only going to happen on transfers from the auto attendant - it's got to return to the transfer point to have a mailbox answer it.

You could try transferring to 777, waiting for answer, then *8-71 and disconnect.

Well now that makes sence.. My other customer is 100% Auto Attendant Answer so it works for them. I guess I will do the loop around to a CO port and do it that way. Just seems to 1985 of a solution.
Thanks for your help.

Hmmm.... take an unused extension number, like 51. Give it VMS Coverage, and set the VMS Coverage Rings to 1.

In the Partner Messaging, create mailbox 51, but assign it to Auto Attendant No. 2

In Auto Attendant No. 2, set the schedule to follow the Business Schedule, and Closed All Days.

In the Night Menu of Auto Attendant No. 2, disable all selector codes, and set the Night Timeout/Dial-0 option to transfer to Ext. 71

Record the Night Greeting to say "Your call is being transferred"

Transfer the callers to Ext. 51 instead of 71. They will hear one ring, "Your call is being transferred", then it will go to 71, ring the extensions, and cover to mailbox 71 if not answered.

TTT - can you set MB71 as a phantom mb so the message can be left in the mb of his choice?

Yup - Release 6 and 7. 7 can have multiple mailboxes phantom into a single mailbox, 6 is one sender per receiver only.

SEGShark's got it covered: "setup on Ext 71 sending it's messages to Ext 16's mail box"

I also like sending to an unused general mailbox - 9992, 3, or 4. That way, you still get a light, but you keep your personal mailbox personal.
