There has to be a way to display caller ID, from an outside call, coming in on a T1. The phone company says they can send real time ANI, and when they do, all calls are routed to the Operator. The Vendor says that there is no possible way to get caller ID over a T1. I believe that if teleco can get it to the system, the system should be able to decode whatever the signal is and display it on the phone sets.

The only was to get caller ID over a T1 is if the T1 is a PRI type with D channel messaging. Just a regular T1 DOES NOT have the caller ID capability. If a regular T1 then contact the dial tone provider and change to PRI

There is a way but it has been so long it was called
"The In-Band Automatic Number Identification (IANI)". This feature provides the ability to display a ten-digit calling party number during setup (signaling) over a non-Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) T1 trunk. Like I said I have not done it in so long I cann't remember how to set it up.

yes hawks is right , it is done using the ABCD register signaling ... but dont know how to setup. the networking guides must have the procedures though

in this area a pri bills lower then a t1 anyway so we recogmend a upgrage to pri. if your using dial up outbound you get better thru-put, there quicker and much more fun to paly with. as a vendor we don't offer that either. but when you turn it on the calls route to the att, that means that the switch see a diff and does routing, that alone means it should be able to work.

I believe the limitation on the Meridian is that you cannot have DTMF based ANI (on a plain T1) and have DNIS digits. You can have one or the other.

In Band ANI, now you are showing just how old you are. I haven't heard that in a while.

That's funny.

Is there anyway to take the incoming number and hardcode a name onto it in the switch?
