Caller ID on ACS R2

I've had the LEC turn CLID on on my phone lines. Now when a caller calls in it shows the Caller ID on the phone only after the person has picked up. Is there anyway for users to know who is calling before they pick up the phone? I've had the callie wait 3 rings to pick up and they tell me it still shows VMS. Is there some button or something I need to add?

Or do i need to upgrade to R6? (see next post)

It's showing the call is coming from VMS because the caller goes through an auto-attendant first. Correct?

Unless the call goes straight through to ringing phones, your caller ID display will not show caller ID information. This problem has not been addressed until R7. Even an R6 will display that the call is coming from VMS if the caller goes through an auto-attendant first.

so does the R6 not provide clid on the transfer?

Like I said: I've never seen an R6 and below give me caller ID information on a RINGING PHONE when the call goes through an AA, ASA or DXD first. The caller ID information doesn't display until the phone is picked up, unless your incoming calls go directly to a group of ringing phones. The problem has not been resolved until the new R7.

No, you will not be able to acomplish this with R2.

jonnyGURU, are you sure R6 doesn't do this? According to AVAYA's Installation and programming manual, this feature was available starting with R6.
 
I got the back of my hands slapped on this one awhile back. I too swore that the R6.0 wouldn't do this. Apparently I was wrong.

it looks like all you need to do is press the line button when the phone is ringing and the CLID is displayed. We are planning on replacing this system, and moving them onto the S8700 by 1st qtr of next year, so i think they can live with pressing the button until then. ;-)

Whenever I press the "line" button on a key system, I pick up that line (via speakerphone if I don't pick up the handset!) :)

I installed two R6's this week alone that had a call flow going through an Auto Attendant (via Messaging) and both systems showed inbound calls as coming from "Voice Mail System." :/

Now, the problem could've been my revision of Messenger. That's always a possibility.

The caller ID is displayed if you press the line button once. I think you pick up the call if you press the line button twice, for sure if you press the speaker button or lift the handset. I haven't tried pushing the line button twice but I thnk I read that somewhere. R6 does the "press line button once" thing for sure.

If the extension is actually ringing (not just flashing) on the incoming, pressing the line key before lifting the handset will NOT cause you to answer the call on the speaker phone.

When a call is transferred from the Auto Attendant, you will still see "Voice Messaging System" during the first ring cycle (remember its "ring-beep" for the first cycle, because it's first an intercom call from the voice mail port) and then you will see the CID while the line is ringing as a transfer (now it's "ring-beep-beep")

Remember to set the auto attendant to 2 rings, or there won't be any CID to display.

 
Hi TTT,
In the Toronto area, you can set the delay to one ring and catch the CLID. You don't "hear" the first ring. The best advice is to experiment in your area and see. The delay will be one or two rings. The caller will hear two or three rings.
