CALLER ID NOT WORKING ON LINE TWO ONLY

Hi Everyone - I'm hoping you can solve this.
I have a Partner II R4.1 system and two 206EC cards connected to all MLS-18D phones. Line one "IN" is connected to the top port of the first 206EC module. Line two "IN" is connected to the bottom line-in port of that same module.

Suddenly I noticed caller ID is not coming through on calls to Line 2 but does work on Line 1, 3 and 4. I swapped the incoming lines 1 and 2, and it does NOT follow the incoming lines - it stays with Line Port 2 on the 206EC card. I swapped the 206ec card with another one (twice) and all are R4.1. The problem stays even with a brand new 206ec card.

I tried resetting the system twice - did not make a difference. I have no hunt groups except the one required for the voice mail. The partner Mail VS (R4.1) system gives at least three rings before it answers.

I'm assuming it's the Partner II processor having a problem, but I thought I'd ask in case there is some programming step that might have disabled or turned off Caller ID for only that one line on all phones.

Are all of the phone lines programmed identically in the Partner? For example, if a line is set to no ring, caller ID won't be displayed. If the auto attendant answers incoming calls too quickly, caller ID info won't have a chance to be collected and displayed.

If programming is the same for all phone lines, I'd replace the processor. Given the age of the Partner II, I'd suggest upgrading to a Partner ACS R8.

Hi Dexman - The phones are all set to ring immediately. I had already checked that. The caller ID info comes through on any phone line connected to "Line In" port 1 - but not any phone if I move the line 1 wire and put it into "Line In" port 2. I think that pretty much erases the likelihood of phone programming being the culprit. It's not the voicemail - I took it out of the system once and Line two still wouldn't show caller ID on any phone.

Is it possible to reprogram, the line 2 button so it is connected to "Line In" port 3 - skipping line 2 entirely on all phones? If so, I can just move the phone line to the next "Line In" jack and my problem is solved. Caller ID works on Line 1, 3 and 4. Do you know how I can do this by reassigning the lines on the phone buttons?

ACS R8 is too old for me to want to buy it and install it. I'd rather go to the newest system if I am changing away from Partner II - but my first preference is to try to use what I have.

You can use #301 to assign specific lines to specific buttons (1-assign, 2-unassign, or 3-choose line button). YOu can use that to switch the line appearances around to skip line port 2. I've done that before on a failing port. I've never seen a port just not show caller id before though. Seems odd.
 
Telecomboy - thank you for the tip about #301. I will look it up in the manual and try to skip over line in port 2. I agree it is weird, but it isn't the 206ec card like I would have expected - I've swapped it with a brand new one twice (I have two NOS spares). I wonder if the 206ec right next to it could somehow interfere with it since it's between the processor and the problem module line port. I'm gonna swap that one too and see if it makes a difference before I work around that line. If it does, I'll post.

I would try moving the CO lines themselves, if the problem follows the line you may not have ICLID service on that line. If the problem sttays with the port then you know it is a hardware issue. Personally I would pony up for an ACS, you can get them on the web for a few hundred dollars. I don't think I would go with the R8 as the 509's have hardware issues. The R6's seem to last much longer. We have some out there that are over 20 years old and still chugging along.

Hi Budbyrd: I'm not getting any caller ID on the phones with line 2 but I am getting it on line 1. I tried swapping the incoming lines and the result is the caller ID from phone line 2 that is now going into the 206EC line 1 DOES show caller ID info. If I put that same incoming line back into the 206EC's line 2, it DOES NOT show caller ID info. I went a step further last night and connected caller ID boxes to each line before they go into the 206EC card and both lines show caller ID info. My problem is inside the partner II system but it isn't the 206EC card.

I would abandon port 2, install another EC card in your next empty slot and using #301 #3 (choose line button) assign that Line port (5?) as your 2nd line. Of course you will have to make programming updates for Voice mail.
 
I vaguely remember reading that Caller ID functionality is handled by a daughter-board inside Partner processors. If this is true, could the board need to be checked?

Thank you WikiTech - that is what I'm going to do very likely. but next post gives me an idea...

Dexman: If that is the case that the caller ID is on a daughter board, then I could get another Partner II module cheap and swap the daughterboard - and maybe not loose the settings if the daughter board plugs in vs soldered in. I've had this apart to change the battery before, but I don't remember much other than it had the separate power supply - oh and the difficulty getting the soldered old battery holes cleared of solder to put a new battery in.

Any idea if you could verify this for sure or is just something you ran across and don't remember where?

OP says he's tried other 206EC modules in slot 1 and still line 2 doesn't get CID, even when a telco line that is confirmed to provide it is plugged into CO-2. At this point, default the processor and try again, or remove line 2 from the phones, replace it with a free CO port and move the line.
 
I solved this by removing line 2 from the phone and voicemail setups. It works fine this way. Thank you everyone for the suggestions.
