Does the Definity have the ability to display caller-ID name information when receiving an outside call?

The switch is sending the caller-ID digits when it can, but if it could also send the name, that would be great.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Best regards,
Jason

The PBX doesn't have control over the name displayed on the far end. If the call is ISDN/SS7 end-to-end, and the receiving PBX is a Defninity, then your 'station name' will (often) display. However, calls from your PBX to the public network will only display a name if the subscriber pays to receive name (caller ID with name) AND the receiving telco pays to do the database lookup to your LEC to get the name associated with the CPN that you transmit.

If you get an answer to this question -- we would be very interested in the solution. We have been researching this issue for the past two months with our local and long distance providers, and we're still not receiving the CP-Name on our trunks.

To see if you're receiving the information on your trunks, you can issue the following command and watch calls flow in:

list trace tac XXXX (where XXXX = trunk access code)

You will notice on the incoming call that you will see a line of information entitled "Calling Number & Name:" and then the information will follow if you're receiving it. We get the ANI but not the CP-Name......

Yes, it does. However most calls don't. I'd say 20% do, 50% just the number and 30% none... Depends on how the calls are routed to you... Sometimes from the same number it doesn't. The call must route differently on occasion.

Here's how my trunk is setup:

wildcard:

thanks for the info -- we've tried using call-by-call (cbc) as the trunk-group type, but we have problems b/c we have to do a lot of digit conversion on the 3rd page b/c we have a multitude of treatments for different ranges. The CBC type will not let us use the conversion ..... any ideas?

is it possible to extract caller's phone number and/or name programmatically by a software component? if yes, could anyone please recommend a few of them?

Thanks,
Suqing
