Caller ID for Second Call

I've seen a previous post ( that Caller ID information isn't available to a caller already using their line when the second call rings. We have a PRI T1 and DID's and the Caller ID information for the second "works" but the incoming call only shows the DN's assigned line information, such as the Line Number or Line Name or the Public Number assigned to the line. While the second call rings, Feature 811 only shows the Physical Line number. In sum, only internal system information is shown on the set while that second call rings. However, the call log will show all the caller ID information for the second call.

I can't get an answer from our service provider and have learned a great deal about the BCM in the last few months to the point where I feel pretty confident there's little else for me to try (and nothing left to read), but I need an authoritative anwswer that this "expensive phone system" can either do what our home phones can (and keep investigating) or that it cannot. My users consider this pretty important and I would really appreciate any response from the Forum. Thanks.

Simple feature for our home phones that this "expensive phone system" can't do. Ironic isn't it.

As a work around you can program a button as F811 on all the sets and train the users.

P.S. just wait until you want to conference more then 2 people :)

Belive me, I spent 3 days on this forum before I was able to do a conference call. I've never seen such a dumb ass way of doing things a Nortel does on the BCM.

nsantin thanks for your response.

Perhaps there's hope in your reply, but I should have mentioned that I tried the F811 information.

As the second call comes in, the F811 information provided turns out to be the user's own DN, such as their Name (when Telco Features->Caller ID is set to Name), their DID line number (when number is set for Caller ID) , or the physical line number, like "Line 083" which is merely the rollover line that the call came in on. F811 makes it look like I am calling myself as it shows my name or Public Number, or it like like Physical Line 083 is calling me. That second call's CLID info is only available from the log after the call.

If you're telling me, it's possible to see the actual caller's information, I can keep looking. Our SBC trainer couldn't figure it out and we've been asking since April.

This might be a basic setup issue. Is there any other area to look at which line info gets passed to the set, or perhaps a method to control what caller ID info is passsed to the set?

Again, I appreciate anyone's help.

When you hit F811 you should get an option for "More" on the display. This will scroll between the DN ingo, line info and CLID info.

If F811 doesn't display "More" on a T716E (which should be capable of that second line information), it suggest there is something really wrong somewhere. Any last suggestions before abandoning this thread?

Has anyone found a way to get this to work? (show caller Id info for a second call) I've tried using the Feature 811 (Call Information), but that just shows the internal line number for the external call.
Oddly enough, once the call goes to voicemail I can see the caller ID info for the missed call.

if nortel did everythig right in the first release there would be nothing to upgrade to!

phitzer this is not the first release.
The BCM is based on the Norstar code base in use since 1986.
Nortel still can't get it right.

If the line is a target line and it is ring only than make sure you press show in line assignment and assign 2 ring only appearances.
In telco features make sure that clid is enabled for the target line.

Aragon, thanks for the information it led me further. Just like Roundisfunny, I hit F811 and saw only my internal line info. But when I hit F811 and, after seeing my internal Target Line displayed, THEN pressed the button assigned to the Target Line assigned to my phone, I did see the incoming call information - very exciting after so many months of complaints.

Can you elaborate where you say "make sure you press show" and perhaps describe where or how I would see that? I see the same behavior with the Target line and 2 appearance set either to Ring and Appear or Ring Only. I've seen "SHOW" in the display as when doing a button inquiry (F*0) but I am wondering if there's a configuration I need or some other setup to make this simpler than F811 -> Target Line Button.

Any info will be appreciated, thanks.

Well I was referring to the ring only setting in terminals and sets>line access>line assignment pressing show on the assigned line allows you to set more than the default 1 ring only appearance.
But when using f811 you must press the ringing line key, this is normal usage of f811.
If I get a chance to monkey around with 7.0 and clid I will post my results in this thread.

Aragon, more than six months after hearing an SBsomecompany BCM trainer tell me the lack of a caller ID for that second call was either a line or a system problem and it would cost hundreds, it's great to finally have it working. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

It is also worth noting that if you put the original call on hold, the caller ID for the second incoming call will show up, provided it is still ringing in.
