We have a mixture of Mitel 5212 and 5224 phones. After two years of viewing the number of calls from the outside on my display, I inquired about adding the caller name to the caller ID on our PRI from our telco vendor. The monthly cost was very low, so I had them do this. The 5224 users are happy - they have a softkey that lets them toggle back to the phone number if the caller 'name' appears as cellular call. The 5212 users are not so happy. Before this change they could see the number of the caller, now they sometimes see the name but often only see 'cellular call' and cannot identify the user's number because they don't have the toggle softkey. Is there any way to: a) display name AND number on the display of the 5212, b) give them the 'toggle' capabilities of the 5224, or c) have the 5212 display number only while the 5224 phones display the name?

Quoted from the Help Files

Note: Lines rung by a non-DPNSS trunk that is capable of delivering both calling name and number will display both at the same time for large display sets and provide a toggle mechanism for lower end display sets during ringing state. This applies only to the 5020, 5220, 5220 (Dual Mode), 5224, 5312, 5324, 5330 and 5340 IP Phones and Navigator. When both the "Calling Party Name" and "Calling Party Number" are available, the name will always be displayed first on the 5212 and 5224 during ringing. To see the number on a 5224, press the Toggle softkey. On a 5212, "Calling Party Number" is not available until the call is answered.

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid that might be the case. Is there any way to switch the values of 'Calling Party Number' and 'Calling Party Name' so that the number will be displayed on the 5212 model phones, even if the system thinks it is displaying the name? It would be OK if the 5224 users had to press the toggle switch to display the name.

I don't know of any way to suppress the name without suppressing the digits at the same time.

Im not sure if this will work or not but I wanted to throw it out there and leave other to comment.

What about putting all of your 5212's in their own COS with the "Display ANI/ISDN Calling Number Only" selected

The "Display ANI/ISDN Calling Number Only" turns off the display of DNIS digits. If this option is disabled, the display will show the DNIS digits until the call is answered. Not what we want, but good try.

We created a new COS (by copying the existing COS for our 5212s and 5224s) and moved one 5212 extension into it for testing. The 'Display ANI/ISDN Calling Number Only' option was already selected (set to 'yes'). We unselected this option in our new test COS. After doing so, the extension does not display any Caller ID info. It just displays 'XXXX Calling' when the phone rings where 'XXXX' is the extension number of the phone that is ringing. We then reselected the 'Display ANI/ISDN Calling Number Only' option and the extension went back to displaying the calling party name.

It is showing the DNIS digits as mentioned earlier.

The manual clearly states that what you want is not possible on that set type.

The new 5312 has dual line display and might do the trick for needy users.
