We are in the process of building out a new switch (asterisk) and have a tmdi pri tie trunks between the nortel and asterisk. The nortel is the main switch at this point and receives all pstn calls via pri did. We are primarily 4 digit extensions, but to route to the pri, I'm forwarding extensions to 79xxxx (this routes to asterisk) and letting asterisk remove the 79 so I can keep using 4 digit extensions.

This works great except for one piece. Local calls coming in from the pstn forward directly to callpilot. If I dial from my cell (not a local number), it rings through to the extension and works properly.

Any ideas? I've tried routing only 4 digits (79xx and having the remote end manipulate as needed) but that didn't work either.

How are you routing? DSC? Can provide a printout? Is the Asterisk using Callpilot?

Is it possible the inbound carrier has you on a virtual network, such as MCI/Verizon VNET or ATT SDN? That could cause some digit conversion at the carrier. Your cell phone would not be in their database.

jswainnortel, unfortunately, I'm not certain how routing takes place. i think it's a mix of several things as we've had several people work (and re-work) the system through the years. asterisk isn't using callpilot and dchannel messages show that the call is never getting to to pri that runs to asterisk.

GHTROUT, anything is possible. I would think that somehow either they are telling me or my switch knows the number is local or at least "different" than my cell.

Here's everything I can think of that has to do with routing . but I know it's not everything, but maybe it will help?

FYI, I've used several local numbers, but for debugging purposes, let's assume that the exchange is 241 and remote is area code 850. I have not had someone outside of the local area but inside area code 251 try to dial a did, probably should.

RLI 0 is the PRI to the pstn, directly attached to the nortel. RLI 10 is ip trunks to a remote nortel cabinet. did's local to the "main" cabinet, if forwarded to the remote nortel, forward fine. It's only when forwarding to the asterisk (over RLI 11) that there are problems.

Of note (from what little I can find from searching), is that FRL is set to 3. . .mm .

*10 mins later* . nope. changed to 0. no luck.:(

another possible burn.. change those trunk (tie) from vod to vce.. and answer trmb to no...

i've seen routing problems in a tamdem that the tie had to be vce and others where only vod would work

Awesome johnpoole. I changed the rdb to VOD and my local calls started going through!
