Also check the crossover cable. Pins 1 & 2 and pins 3 & 6 are swapped at each end.

I use a switch - that way you don't have to worry about the crossover cable. (On the bench of course)
You can also (once you have the IP address in your laptop or PC programmed) click on Start, Run, and CMD. (bring up a commnad prompt).
Type the following:
ping 192.168.110.10
If you get a reply from, that means you should be able to access it from a web browser.
