Incase some are pulling hair out troubleshooting...

Seems there is an unknown issue with the power supply for Call Pilot's.....I have had a few CP's now that have went down, all ports were active and lights flashing etc but vmail not active.....turns out the power supply was very hot to touch and needed to be replaced in all cases.

I still live and hello to all!

I had that happen too. Mine took a full dirt nap (no lights on CP at all), but like you said the PS was hot to the touch when the tech got there.

When I got 2 replacements from my vendor, one of those was making a weird high pitch noise. I returned it for a replacement of course. Now I keep a spare on hand, just in case this happens again.

If you sell or maintain CP's, get a spare power supply!!!

it happened to one of our customer's too ... customer got a powersupply from radioshak or someplace like that

We have also replaced CallPilot power supplys for five different customers and I heard from a tech in St Louis that has also had this issue. I haven't seen ANYTHING from Nortel on the subject. Yep, keep a spare!

Interesting. Installed about 30 CP's so far. I've never had one fail... guess I have a horseshoe up my....

We have had about 6 call pilot power supply failures in the last 6 months. Good thing spares are cheap.

Bloody spares are expensive. Should be about 20 bucks not 60.

Any more info on the Radio Shack substitute?

According to NORTEL the problem power supply is part # A0838158.
Bulletin # PAA-2004-0411-NA

Hi,

we sell and support CPs too. Nobody of you mentioned what type of power supply it was. We have DC power supllies in CP installed. What is your type?

We are using standard issue Nortel A0838158, 9V DC 1.7 amp.

Have used Rat Shack 9v 800ma with good service as a temp replacement for a day or two while perm replacement came from Nortel.

Hey Arr,
$60, who is your vendor?
I would sell them for more than $30 and would be making 40% on that!

You got robbed!

I need to replace a CP power supply this weekend, and I dont have any spares in stock.

Sounds like you can use any DC- 9Volt @ 1.7 amp. Correct?

Is anyone using an aftermarket supply as a long term solution?

I have been using a Radio Shack 9VDC plug in adapter powerv supply at one site for over 5 months with no problems

FastRad power supplies seem to work fine too.
