Our MIS guy would like to be able to turn call forwarding on for his desk phone when he is working in the computer room so he can take his calls there. How can this be done?

Thanks,
Ken

Do a 'disp feat' command. Half way down the first page is an entry for Call Forwarding Activation. If you have a code there all your guy needs to do is go off hook at the phone he wishes to forward and dial the activation code plus the extension to which he wants the number forwarded. When he's done in the computer room he just needs to dial the cancellation code (again from the forwarded phone) listed to right on the feature access code form from .

If you don't have an entry for Call Forwarding Activation you need to 'disp dial' and look for the 'fac' entries. This will tell you what are acceptable feature access code entries on your system. Select two that aren't in use and 'cha feat' to add them. It is pretty standard to use *x to activate and #x to deactivate where x is the same number for each.

If you want to get fancy on the guy program two personal abbreviated dialing buttons onto his phone so all he needs to do is press one to activate forward and one to deactivate.

Sounds like you want the MIS guy to control this remotely. The station he is calling from would have to have a COS with console permissions. This changes the way the phone with the new COS handles features now. When he dials the feature access code for call forwarding he will now get back dialtone, instead of the confirmation tone. He will now dial the extension number he wishes to forward followed by the extension he wishes to forward to.

IE He is sitting at extension 100. He wishes to forward extension 200 (his own extension). The COS on the phone he is dialing FROM has console permissions. The feature access code for call forward/all is *2. He would dial *2, he would then hear dialtone, he would then dial 200 (he wants to forward his phone), and then dial the number he wants to forward to. Say extension 300. So he would then dial 300.

*2200300
*2{extension you wish to forward}{forward to number}

This is a big help if you are supporting users and they have forwarded their phones and don't know how to un-forward them. You can remove the call forwarding for them from any phones that has the correct COS. I would be cautious as to how many phones have this permission. The fewer the better. If not it will cause you more trouble than good.

Hope this helps

Thanks

Chris

Just Remind him to deactivate it. We do call forwarding of our helpdesk line often if there is only 1 or 2 people available. Sometimes our IT folk for get to deactivate the forwarding and wonder why they are not getting calls :)
