I have a user that is having her calls forwarded to her home phone. If you call her home phone directly the voicemail works fine, but if she has a call forwarded from our Nortel system it gives the caller a busy signal and disconnects them without a chance to leave a message. I have no idea what is causing it. Any advice?

and sfa? and what switch is her home phone on? it may need additional options...

mine home phone works on that same call flow.. if i forward my 3904 to my home phone, msgs go to my personal mb.. if i forward my home phone to my 3904 those calls go to my cp mb.. i did have to add my home number as a ext dn in cp

Here is her TNB. I am unsure what switch she is on. I just started working with this system 2 weeks ago so I am quite lost at times. If you need more information to help me please just let me know what to get and how. Thanks for the quick responses.

When do you get the busy as soon as the call is forwarded or when it ring no answers then tries to go to voicemail.

It gives the busy signal after a couple of rings. Could this be something on our end, like number of rings before killing the call?

What do you mean it goes to her Vmail fine? do you mean her home phone Vmail or the Switch Vmail?

If her phone is call forwared to her home, it needs
"CLS CFXA" and CDB needs CFF.

Can her office phone call her home phone?

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

Perhaps I should have been more clear, sorry about that. It would seem that the only time she has a problem is when she already has a call on the line. The voicemail service is with Suddenlink Internet, but they swear everything is working fine on their end. If she receives a call while already in a call it acts like our system is getting tired of waiting and disconnecting the caller, but I don't know how to check or change that. I hope this helps diagnose the problem.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

Try to call her extension internaly while she is on her home phone and see if you get the same result.

There could be a limitation with the hunting feature on her home phone.

You could test this with a cell phone by setting the callforward on a cell phone to her home phone and then calling that cell while she is on the home phone.... if you get the same treatment, it might not be possible then....

good luck.

Just so you understand, once the phone is forwarded out of the system to her home phone, the Nortel no longer has any control over the call, except for Line supervision. This is a problem with the home phone Vmail Vendor. I had this same problem with Southern Bell as they were using a 3rd party Vmail system and they had to make some changes to it.

I kind of suspect that Suddenlink (the home provider) might be part of the problem, they are very quick to state that there is no problem with their system. I checked all of the call forwarding settings on our end, and as ace stated there is little control over the call once it forwards.

I have learned quite a bit from this chase though, thanks for all the responses and help. I think I am going to have to get the home provider to delve a little deeper into their voicemail side as I am willing to bet they did not try it with another call on the line as described in the problem I am encountering.

Thanks again folks.

Trying it with a call already to the home user is the only way to prove it. Try just using 2 phones to call the home user without calling her office phone and see if it happens.
just call her home number.

Good ideas ace and norteltech, thanks. I haven't been at this for very long so even the simple stuff doesn't occur to me very quickly.

simple test can prove one way or the other whose problem it is.

Okay, I tested the phone to see exactly what wsa happening for myself.

If I directly call the users home phone and then place a second call to her home phone the voicemail works fine.

If I call the user's office phone and then call it again with a second phone the 2nd call fails. After numerous call attempts I was able to get through to her home voicemail, but onle 1 out of 6 tries was successful.

I am stumped. Thanks in advance for any help.

Try doing a TRAC in LD 80 when you do the 2nd call to see what is being sent out and post that here.

Once you forward out of the switch, your switch phone no longer has any effect on the call as it is no in the call flow and is controlled by the Telco where you are calling to.
