I work for a small business that provides maintenance support for area factories. We have various technicians on-call for after hours incidents. At present, we have an outside service where customers call an 800 number and a live operator manually dials various numbers until she gets a technician to pick up the phone.

This service has just informed us that they are drastically increasing their fees. My manager has asked me to find out if there is some sort of software that we can run on our server that could provide this type of service. Customers would call an after-hours 800 number and this software would then dial various phone numbers until someone answers.

I have been searching all over the internet, but can't seem find anything. Yet I know there must be software out there that can do this sort of thing. Can anyone suggest a software package that could do what I describe above? Thank you!

Sorry to be a pain, but we'll need some more info.

You mention a server, what is it?
Do you have ISDN lines comming in?

Vertical TeleVantage can do this, but it is a full blown software PBX, but also you could look at things like Asterix and OnDO and hook up with a VoIP provider.

You are looking at "find me/follow me" several PBX vendors have the software. I beleive that Inter-Tel has Unified Comm software that can run on a server without the Inter-Tel PBX.

It can ring several numbers before connecting to one and you can update on the fly with a web port-hole.

Thanks for the info guys! I am going to check out some of the software you recommend.

StuReeves: We currently run a Windows 2000 AD server. We connect to the Internet through a DSL line.

Just had a conference with my boss this morning. He told me that ideally this software I am looking for would do the following:

1) A customer calls an 800 number for after hours support.

2) The software prompts them to enter a number for their geographic location

3) The software dials the number of the on-call person for that area. If there is no answer, the software dials secondary numbers until it gets someone to pick up the call.

4) My manager says it would be great if there was someway to confirm who "commited" to the call, and that there would be a way of generating a report of calls and who answered them, on like a monthly basis.

I don't know if there is some software beast out there that can do all of this, but I am sure there is. I am primarily a pc support tech and network admin, and am in the 2nd week of my new job at this company. So if I can find a solution to present to management, it would really make me look good! Thanks again for all your guys' help.

Vertical TeleVantage can do this. I don't use it on DSL, but pretty straight foward stuff. Looks a bit like OutLook to use and you can build a pure IP system or one with Dialogic cards. However, a lot of it comes down to how much you want to spend.

and no, I don't work for them.

Seems a pretty straight foward setup that you require.
However you would need someone to provde the 800 to IP conversion. And you have to think what if your DSL goes down?

Ask this question in the IP Office forum. You will get a myriad of replies.

This is from Toronto, Canada. we're using SNR (Single Number Reach) service which is offer by local phone company and cost $20.00 per month. SNR has wed interface where you can have drill down phone numbers up to 5 drill down different phone numbers. Check out with your local tellecomm provider. The other option would cost so much.
Good luck
