Calendars and Charts in Crystal Reports

Hello All

My department is just starting to use Crystal Reports to get data out our sql database. The database contains information about our projects: who is assigned to a project, production schedules and job step due dates, and much more.

Since we are just scratching the surface of what Crystal Reports can do, I am wondering if it can do the following:

Create a monthly calendar with key information in the date squares, but also leave space for live text to be added as needed.

Create Gantt charts from the production job steps and due dates. Ideally the Gantt charts would include multi-colors to visually help the user separate the job steps/projects.

Any advice would be appreciated.

For a monthly calendar, you'd need an extra table showing all of the days in a month, or at least all of the working days. Or maybe a dummy project with one entry per day. Then you can use Crystal's grouping features.

You get to charts via Insert. Lots of options, though I'm not familiar with Gantt charts.

It helps to give your Crystal version, since newer versions have extra options, and some extra problems. My workplace has recently upgraded from Crystal 8.5 to Crystal 10, both using databases created by SQL 8.

Download some of the back issues of our Crystal Clear newsletter. We covered a calendar/chart project a few years ago.

The sample report is also available from the web site and it's still a popular download. It's in Cr8.0 so should show techniques that woould work fine with yout CR9.
