When I enter our group calendar that we are trying to build an error comes up:
No rescheduling information for the requested invitees is available at this time.

Then if I click on any of the other member names including my own, I get the error:
Unable to open user's mail database.

Is this configuration problem that anyone else has come across? We are on Notes 5.06a which runs on a Linux server.

Thanks,
Marcus

Have the users concerned given you at least read access to their mail databases?

Yes, we all have editor access to each others mail and open and close each others mailfiles all the time. I have tried rebuilding busytime.nsf and this now displays the freespace in the group calendar but still we cannot view each others calendar. Do you have any clues?

Please find attached a TechNote regarding this problem from Lotus. I think perhaps you should take a look at scenario number 3 (ACL problem). Hope this helps.

Title: "Unable to Open User's Mail File" When Trying To Access Another User's Calendar in a Group Schedule
Product Area: Domino Server, Notes
Product: Domino Server 5.x, Notes Client 5.x
Topic: Messaging & Mail \\ Calendaring & Scheduling \\ Notes Freetime Search
Number: 175584
Date: 04/26/2000

Problem:

When you attempt to view a user's mail file in a Group Schedule, the following error message occurs:

"Unable to Open User's Mail File"

In addition to not being able to open the user's Calendar for viewing, you also cannot view Free Time.

Solution:

This error can be caused by the following scenarios:

Scenario # 1: The person whose calendar you are trying to read has not activated their Calendar Profile.
Scenario # 2: The person whose calendar you are trying to read has added names to the 'Allow Only These People View My Free Time Information' field in their Calendar preferences but has excluded your name.
Scenario # 3: The Access Control List settings are incorrect.
Scenario # 4: The person whose calendar you are trying to read has gone through a Name Change via AdminP and the mail file owner field was not updated.

Each scenario is described in detail below.

Scenario # 1
The person whose calendar you are trying to read has not activated their Calendar Profile. If this is the case, the free time bar located next to the user's name in your Group Calendar is a light gray color (indicating "No Info"). The person needs to initially activate their Calendar Profile in order to allow you and other users to view their Calendar from a Group Schedule. Steps they need to follow in their mail file:

1. Open the mail file and select Actions, Tools, Preferences.
2. In the Preferences dialog box which appears, select OK. This will activate their Calendar Profile and allow other users including you to view and access their Calendar, assuming they have the appropriate rights to do so.
3a. For users on the same mail server:
Schedule Manager is not running. Schedule Manager is the server task (sched) that retrieves Free Time information.

3b. For users on a different mail server:
Calendar Connector is not running. Your mail server cannot connect to the other person's mail server because Calendar Connector is not running on your mail server. Calendar Connector is the server task (calconn) that connects to another server before your server can obtain free time information from the other server.

Scenario # 2
The person whose calendar you are trying to read has added names to the 'Allow Only These People View My Free Time Information' field in their Calendar preferences but has excluded your name. If this is the case, the free time bar located next to the user's name in your Group Calendar is dark gray (indicating "Info Restricted").

The person whose calendar you are trying to access will need to add your name to the 'Allow Only These People View My Free Time Information' field. Steps they need to follow in their mail file:

1. Open the mail file and select Actions, Tools, Preferences.
2. In the Preferences dialog box which appears, select the Calendar tab.
3. Select the Free Time tab.
4. Add your name to the 'Allow Only These People View My Free Time Information' box.
5. Select OK.

Scenario # 3
The Access Control List settings are incorrect. If this is the case, the free time bar located next to the user's name in your Group Calendar show the colors, green (indicating "Free Time") and black (indicating "Busy Time"). It appears as if you should be able to open the Calendar.

The person whose calendar you are trying to access will need to have 'Read Public Documents' selected in the Access Control List (ACL) of their mail file. Steps they need to follow in their mail file:

1. Open the mail file and select Actions, Tools, Preferences.
2. In the Preferences dialog box which appears, select the Delegation tab.
3. Select the Calendar Delegation tab.
4. Select the 'Anyone Can Read My Calendar' option (which will set the ACL as "Default= No Access", "Read Public Documents")

-or-

Select 'Only Allow the Following People To Read My Calendar' option and specifically choose your name (and whoever else will need to read their calendar). This adds the specific people's names to the ACL with "No Access", "Read Public Documents".

5. Select OK.

Note: Public documents refer to Calendar entries. People who are designated with the ACL setting of "No Access" and "Read Public Documents" in a mail file can read Calendar entries in that mail file but cannot access mail documents (for example, read email.)

Scenario # 4
The person whose calendar you are trying to read has gone through a Name Change via AdminP and the mail file owner field was not updated. If this is the case, the free time bar located next to the user's name in your Group Calendar is a light gray color (indicating "No Info"). The person needs correct their mail file owner name. It should correspond with the $Name field for that person in the Busytime.nsf.

The Administrator should open the Busytime.nsf, find the document for the person in question, then view the properties and make a note of the value for $Name.

Steps they need to follow in their mail file:

1. Open the mail file and select Actions, Tools, Preferences.
2. Select the Mail tab, then select the Basics tab.
3. The "This Mail File Belongs To:" field value should correspond to the value noted for $Name above.
4. If it does not, correct it by selecting the appropriate Domino Directory from drop-down list and choose the correct name.

Supporting Information:

The Group Calendar is not only used to view free time but is also used to open someone else's calendar by simply clicking on the name of the user.

It works a treat, thank you very much. It was indeed scenario 3 to do with the ACL list.
