Wonder if somebody could help. I've created a new expenses spreadsheet. I've indicated that the time spent should be shown as h:mm and the next column contains the formula (eg =I4*30.00). It calculates fine if the total time is a round hour, but when it comes to minutes the calculations go awry. If I type in 1:30 I would expect the total to be 45.00 (eg £30.00 per hour * 1 and a half hours). I don't want to have to be doing 1.5 for times. Is there a way the formula can be adapted to calculate .30 minutes as just that?
Thanks.

Even if the time is a 'round hour', you should always enter the time as a time. That is,
1:00
for one hour, not just "1".

Now that you are always dealing with times, your formula should be
=I4*24*30 (because there are 24 hours in a day)

See faq68-5827, Why do Dates and Times seem to be so much trouble? for details on how Excel deals with dates and times.
