Calculating shared variables in a Suppressed Subreport

Using CR 10.0 and an Oracle DB:

I have 2 subreports in GF4 (the lowest Group) which both calculate some shared variables for the ID in the Detail, which is the link from the Main report.

The Main report then prints the data in GF4 for the ID in the Detail, using the shared variables.

When the GF4 (where the calculations are done) in the subreports are visible on both the subreports and the main report, all the the numbers are correct on the main report.

The problem is that I don't want to see the subreports--they are only used to get the numbers. But: If the section that containes a subreport on the main report is suppressed or hidden, or if the section that does the calculations on the subreport is suppressed or hidden, nothing shows up in the variables on the main report. (I get all zeros.)

It appears that the subreport is not executed if it is suppressed at any level.

Do you know any way around this? And, no, the report can't be formatted the way we want it in the subreports.

hello!
yep...you are right! can't suppress the subreport in the main report!
BUT...
you can suppress all sections in the subreport...
then you can use your keyboard or mouse to shrink the subreport to a very small size...in the main report...
you will still have small blank lines after this...but if you go into your section expert you can use the "underlay following section" to eliminate the majority of the white space!

If you are links are done correctly, then the subreport group #4 result will be the same as the total for the subreport. When you set up the shared variable in the subreport, set it equal to the subreport total and place it in the subreport report footer. Then suppressing all sections within the subreport should work.
