Hi,

I have a requirement to work out how much WAN bandwidth I need to purchase for a service we are selling to a client.

The service is a web based interface for a call centre. The known details at the moment are that there will be 50 users taking calls and during an average call of 260 seconds each will process a transaction that will result in about 30K of data going across the network.

Any tips on how to calculate this?

ok, so basically, in a worst case scenario, if every single user were to process a transaction at the exact same time, that would be:

50 x 30Kbps = 1500Kbps, or 1.5Mbps correct?

Probably, you should figure out what the average usage is during high volume times and set that as your standard. My guess is you probably wont need more than 256k-512k.

I would always calculate based on the maximum peak. This accounts for growth potential as our call center services tell us it'll be 50 users and the day they implement that number has usually increased by 30%. So I would calculate 75 x 30Kpbs... This allows for growth potential and additional applications or features that may increase the number from 30 Kpbs.

Cheers,
