I am trying to calculate a monthly average of sales based on territories within a cross tab. Does anyone have any idea how to do this? I have tried the simple fix of changing the summary from sum to average, but the numbers are totally off.

Below is an example...

2/2002 3/2002 4/2002 Total

Central $ amt $ amt $ amt $total
West $ amt $ amt $ amt $total

Total $ amt $ amt $ amt $grand total

What I want to display is the average order amt., I already have the count formula done.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Try using a record selection formula to exclude zero values and your summary should be ok. The zeros are most likely messing up your average calculations. Software Training and Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

You haven't completely defined what you are averaging.
Changing the crosstab summary to Average will give you the average of all of the detail numbers. That is probably not what you are looking for.

I want to average the order amount for the month (# orders for month / total sale amt. = avg. order amount)and have those displayed in the detail section of the crosstab. But since the calculations are performed prior to viewing the crosstab, I don't know what to do at this point. I would imaging that there is some sort of formula field that needs to be created or something along those lines, but I am having issues getting to that point, I don't know where to start. I have been working on this for a while now and am out of ideas. %-)

I would try a manual cross tab report - see faq149-1219.
