Calalog Merge After Backup

Anybody come across this? Having backed up a server successfully Arcserve does not merge the catalogs into the database. I have re-installed Arcserve, uninstalled and reinstalled but without success.
A mergecat will successfully merge the catalogs. I have attempted to append a mergecat as a post backup job but it does not run. I assume it is not getting to the end of the backup because it does not carry out the auto-merge and thus is unable to to carry out post backup jobs.

I had a similar problem once and it turned out to be a corrupt database. I managed to fix it by using dbmgr.exe to re-initialise the ASTPSDAT database. Check out the following for further info:

Are you getting * next to job id #s??? If so you may have corruption...See if you can do the merge cat.exe from the arcserve directory. If it runs quickly and nothing appears to happen check the temp directory and see if you have catalog files in there. You may have corruption check out this:
