Is there a way of changing a cad file to a gif without using other software,a plugin perhaps?

I need to make floorplans webready in a simple way with the least degridation in quality, is it better to use a png format or a pdf perhaps and what would the steps be within cad?

very new to cad, first day infact.

thanks

If you can convert from TIF, JPG, EPS, BMP you could use AutoCADs built in plotting formats.
Use the Plotter Manager to create a printer. Choose the My Computer settings that are controlled by the Heidi drivers and then pick the raster file formats. Make sure that you print to file. I hope this helps.

I would suggest...

exporting to PDF but you would need the drivers for that which come with distiller...

or

export to DWF... to view this format you will need the free software from AutoDesk VoloView... for this all you need to do is type DWFOUT on the AutoCAD command line...

freeware AutoCAD tools and standalone software, some opensource

Just a note, you can view .dwf files with just a browser. VoloView is not actually required.

Ok I hope you can still use this but any way..... If you open your dwg file in cad like and set it like you want it to look on the internet, you can change the background to white using the preferances(key step). Then just tell it copy using the windows copy function on the standard toolbar. Then open your editing software, could be anything really could even be MSpaint. Tell that program past or past special, (past special is much better) Then you have the option of pasting it as a link so that you can then go in and edit it in cad later or as a picture which is hard fastoned and will never change until you repeat these steps. That should do it. By the way if you are using this for the internet stay away from high grade pic formats such as PNG, save as like a BMP or GIF.
Hope it works for you later

You dont need the full Voloview program to view DWF files but you will need the 'plugin' for Internet Explorer. The VoloView Express install is quite large (20ish MB) You can also use the WHIP plugin (no longer supported by Autodesk but perfectly functional and only 3MB) There is also Autodesk's new viewer called Autodesk Express which isn't very large and has some functional improvements over WHIP.

I believe new(ish) versions of AutoCAD (2000+) will automatically install a DWF viewer for IE during the installation.

If you haven't used DWF files before then I would thoroughly recommend them - they allow the user to zoom in/out/window, pan, rotate(i think) all within the browser.
I have found my DWF files tend to be approx 6-8 times smaller in filesize to the original 2D DWGs

Autodesk Express Viewer (this is the latest)

Autodesk WHIP!
