We are using the SonicWall Global VPN client. I have a remote user whose computer was purposely not connected to our domain. Now she needs to be connected to the domain which I was able to do while connected through the VPN. However, the user cannot logon at the windows logon screen with her domain account because credentials are not cached locally on the remote PC, since it can only see the domain once a user is logged into the PC and has connected to the VPN. I found a thread (thread96-1278068) which explains how to setup the Cisco VPN client to connect before logging into Windows but I don't see a similiar setting in the SonicWall.

Does anyone know if the SW VPN is cable of connecting before logging on to windows or does anyone have another solution?

Thanks for any suggestions.

When logging in on windows, under the box for entering name and password there should be a box to check for connecting via vpn or something similar. (sorry I am on Vista and it is different than XP and 2000 Pro so I don't have the exact context).

I hope you find this post helpful.

Below User name and Password is the Log on to: window but my only options are our domain the "this computer".

Below that you should have a check box with "Log on via dial-up connection", check that and logon.

I do have that checkbox but how is that going to help me log on to the VPN before logging on to windows?

Did you try it? It will prompt you for the VPN connection BEFORE you log in.

I haven't tried it but will it actually attempt to dial out on a phone line because this user doesn't have a regular land line.

<sigh>

Click the button, see what happens. It's not going to bite you or anything for gods sake.

You have to configure the VPN so it knows how to connect.

The VPN is configured and it does connect if I have the user log onto the computer instead of the domain.

If the computer is trying to dial out when there is no phone line connected, the VPN will never have a chance to connect so why does it matter how it is configured?

You assume I know how you have the VPN configured. It could be configured to use your LAN instead of a phone line.

If it REQUIRES a phone line, then connect the line first.

The VPN is configured to use the LAN because (as I stated above) there is no land line to connect.
